Margaret, I could not agree with you more on the naming problem. I blame this on, at least in the US, a weak ARS who shares offices with the AARS. The AARS doesn't care about confusion, doesn't care about misrepresenting the attributes of their products, doesn't mind hybridizers selling the naming rights to various people all on the same rose and, if fact, their rules encourage this deception. I've complainted to the AARS and the ARS and all I get back is that this is an agreed international standard and that's that.

There are none so deaf as those that will not hear... I suppose all we can do is complain to or boycott the offending rose breeders, but it won't affect their sales enough to worry them.

There may be an error somewhere on this. My Excellenz that I got from Vintage has a good, strong fragrance as opposed to "none" listed here. Also, the photos in HMF fall into two categories, pink and mauve. Mine is the more mauve color. Is it possible that there are two different roses here?

Thios is a useless description. Height? fragrance? ARS rating? etc.

Descriptions always depend on the available information at the time the rose was listed. Mostly these are very cursory. That is one reason why the practical experience of our members is so valuable. In any case, there is some more info now.
