That is true. However, this was taken in the heat of summer when it fades.

It's true. Those blossoms hang on forever and in a warm climate they do go white with age.

I'm really happy to know this rose is a prolific bloomer since I received it as a bonus rose from Rogue Valley. The one I had initially I discarded since I didn't care for the blooms very much, but my taste must have changed since now I'm quite happy with this one. My only concern is whether it can be kept fairly small since I planted it in a rather confined area. I just had no other room to put it!

When this rose first bloomed it was a clearly two-toned rose and was not fully double. The bloom that emerged during a day when the temperature was 107 degrees was fully double and was a single color, a gorgeous, deeply saturated reddish purple. The day after, this bloom still had not wilted and looked almost equally good.

Dear Cliff,
I just learned today to my shock of what had transpired in regard to your association with Ashdown West. I'm a great lover of old roses and stumbled on your garden site on HMFR by looking up Enfant de France and checking out your incredible selection of roses, which led me to surmise you might be the person who is affiliated with Ashdown West. When I went on the Ashdown site I read the incredible story of what had occurred. I'm so very sorry for this terribly unfair treatment.
I wondered whether you are still selling roses at your new site (although I gather not since you're now listed as a private garden) or would have the time or means of allowing a visit just to admire your wonderful collection. This must be a very stressful time for you and I don't want to impose in any way. Many years ago I lived in Beaumont and for a time visited the reservation as a teacher's aide. It's such a shame that they couldn't have allowed you to stay.

Thank you, Ingrid. It's been a challenging two years of negotiations with the Agua Caliente Tribe and mediation with the seller, her agent and others. I'm a firm believer that gardens are meant to be shared, and I've put together my collection of roses with the hope that visitors will indeed come to see many wonderful varieties that they might not otherwise have the chance to see first-hand. I only ask for advance notice so that we can arrange a mutually convenient time for your visit. Although I've had to suspend Ashdown West's propagation activities, I do have many varieties available for sale and I'd be happy to show these to you during your visit. I should note, however, that winter in the high desert isn't as warm as it is in the Palm Springs area and the roses planted in ground won't come into bloom again until spring.

Thank you for your prompt reply, Cliff. I would love to see your collection but of course you're right, this is not an optimal time of the year for roses. I think I got a little carried away when I realized there is actually someone within driving distance who has a large collection of roses. I don't care for hybrid teas and like only a few floribundas that have more of a shrubby, old-rose look, but I can see you have lots of varieties that would be of interest to me. Perhaps I could contact you again some time toward the end of April and set up a date and time that would be convenient for you to have my husband and me visit. I'll be looking forward to that.

Cliff, I live in Valley Center, which is near Escondido in San Diego County. However, years ago I lived in Riverside County in Beaumont, and my dad now lives in Banning. I'd be interested to know where your nursery is located. By the way, I've also joined your rose forum, which Sammy made me aware of. I was amazed to learn you have approximately 6000 plants and are now caring for them alone. I wish you great luck in selling enough so that you're left with a more manageable number. I'm quite sure I'll want to take some of them off your hands. I wish I'd learned about you sooner, before ordering so many roses on line.
