I bought two beautiful Welcome Home rose trees from J&P company. First I thought I would plant them in a large pot, but they did not look real well after transplanting them in the pots, so decided to plant them in the ground. Now they look very sick, with yellow, brown leaves, and looks to have been eaten on and through, the buds was at first large and beautiful but now are small and not opening up, or is weak and turn brown around the outer bud. I checked under their leaves and did not find anything eating away on them, they are both on the south side of the house in full sun, and some very hot days. I did use a bottle of rose bug spray and I use a fertilizer as recommended. I sure could use some expert advice. I am hoping they are in shock, and will come out of it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Arnetta

Hi Arnetta, this sounds like transplant shock plus some type of insects, possibly thrips. I would pick off all the yellow and sickly leaves, spray them with some type of insect spray for roses from your local store, and give them a dose of liquid Vit B-1 for the shock. I recently got a very sickly rose free that was covered in insects. I pruned it way back, sprayed, and gave it the B 1, and now (2 weeks later) it's coming back with new growth and a bud. What zone are you in? maybe the weather is affecting them too along with the shipping. Search this site for help too on transplant shock. Good Luck Jody

Thank you Jody! I wondered if it had something to do with shock, and I transplanted them twice. I have used a bug spray for roses and removed as many of the dead dried leaves as I could. I also was afraid they might have been over watered. I live in zone 5, Nebraska.. Very hot, around 100 Degrees the past few days. We have had a lot of rain showers also... Thank you again. I will go out today and buy some Vit B-1 for the shock.

Hi , you are welcome. If all else fails you could try Messenger (plant enzyme). I have had mixed results with it. But the B-1 may do the trick. I didn't expect my sickly one to come back ( I got it free at a garage sale) but it did and now looks good. Please keep us posted.. Jody	REPLY

First if these are new bushes, and it's been hot.. water, water, water. And resist the urge to feed them again until after they bloom.

From the picture and given the southern exposure + heat, you could have spider mites. They are teeny tiny and very difficult to see. Tap your leaves over a piece of white paper, if you get little specs, like pepper, it's mites. Spray the underside of your leaves with water every day for about a week, and then every couple of days to keep them in check.

Thank you so much for your advice... I had read some of the other post and problems, and a lot of posters said to do the white paper test, I did try it,but did not come up with any thing, the white paper came out clean and clear. I did do what I have read on this post and today my roses look a little better,I will keep everyone posted. Thank you so much. Regards Arnetta....
