There are small red spines up most of the stem. Old canes are gray, but rare since this has been mowed often. It suckers, but can't tell if it has longer canes that would climb.

The center usually looks darker than the surrounding petals, but I think that the center is darker only because of the number of petals that need to open. Only the edges can be a darker color. May 3, 2012 zone 5

The petals fade to pale pink, the top edge curls back, but unrolled it is an oval shape. They are very fragrant. They measure 3/4 inch long x 1/2 inch wide. When fresh they looked more like the color of Patricia's Sarah van Fleet petal with the ruler. The foliage is not scented.

Here are two bloom clusters, they are held above the plant, and look pink-lilac from a distance. These blooms will darken as they age, and diminish in size to 1/2 inch, and become more fragrant. May 8, 2012

The blooms are flat and held outward, only if it is very rainy do they nod. If damp they fail to open, and the edge turns brown. May 3, 2012

Lisette with Red Rocks penstemon, and purple Homestead verbena. Mother's Day is to the left, and lavender is nearby. "Raydon's Favorite" aster is across the path on the right, it all looks great in the fall.
