Out of all the 60+ roses in our garden, Munstead Wood is my favorite. It is an exquisite, lush, many- petaled, purpley burgandy, of glowing, velvety texture. The flower is 4-5 inches, the bush round maybe 3 ft.. It was newly planted in a large container as a bareroot from David Austin, early Feb. this year, 2010, yet it looks mature.
The fragrance is a strong rosy citrus, & the bush is covered in heavenly blossoms. It is disease free so far, in a more than usual wet spring, bringing blackspot to many other roses in the garden. I am optimistic it will hold up well in our toasty zone 9b inland Bay Area summer. It is the wonderful surprise treasure in our 2010 rose garden.

Is Munstead Wood good for vase life, or do the blooms fall apart quickly?

Dear Jimmy,
So sorry I was unable to respond to your question sooner!
Munstead Wood is good for vases, especially when picked just after the flower opens. I think I remember getting 4 or 5 days' worth of beauty & fragrance. Hope that helps!

Blooms blow in 2 days in the vase. W.S. 2000 lasts twice longer in the vase, and the scent is just as good.

MW lasted longer in the vase than it did on the shrub for me.

Dear Matt,
Was wondering where you purchased your beauitiful Souv. D'Elise Vardon? Seems like you have a very good plant, one that perhaps isn't Mlle Franziska. Also, is there a good fragrance?

Thanks for your help, & I hope you are still enjoying this rose,
Sincerely,
Sherry, z9b, inland Bay Area, Calif.

I received it from a tea collector in Texas. I now reside in Florida, but the plant is still in my parents garden.

Sedona is one of my favorite roses in the garden. We live in inland bay area, Ca. z9b. The blooms have a strong scent. The first flush didn't have much fragrance, but every flush since that spring one, has been strong. The flushes are frequent. The character of the fragrance isn't sharp, but, rather, deep, rosy-pear-like, yummy. The flowers are very beautiful, deeper orange on the outer petals, somewhat apricot toward center early in the bloom, deepening as the flower ages to an even reddish orange, not brash at all. It blends well in our flower bed near Bronze Star, Rouge Royale, Day Breaker, William Shakespeare, even Scepter d'isle. There is a somewhat ruffly form to the blooms, the largest of the flowers are about 4.5 inches, lots of petals. The blooms seem to glow. They hold their shape well.

The bush is about 4x2, bought last spring from local nursery It has strong long stems, flowers 1 to a stem. The disease reisistant is good with an intermittant spray regime. There was a very small amount of rust early on, but after removing those few leaves, it never returned. No other disease noted. New leaves are reddish, which look attractive next to the orangy blooms.
