This is one tough plant. I had a tiny plant with one basal planted in a terrible spot with too much shade. I dug it up and moved it twice, it looked like it would die for a few weeks but I continued to give it water soluble fertilizer. I checked it yesterday and it looked much healthier and even had a bloom and new growth.

This traffic-stopper is at the front of my garden- it's absolutely gorgeous and so fragrant. My daughter and I could smell notes of apricot. The bloom almost looks like paper or silk in its perfection, with subtle changes in tone. The blooms last forever on the bush and several days in a vase. My plant is too young to comment on its growth, form, etc., but I bought it from Roses Unlimited and it is very healthy. I will definitely be purchasing another very soon because one is not enough!

I was pleasantly surprised at how long Young Lycidas lasted in a vase! About 4 days, which is great for an Austin rose. Wonderful fragrance and color, too.
UPDATE: I wanted to add to my earlier post that the blooms seem to last longer in a vase than on the shrub. It's grown very well since I planted it about a month ago - seems very robust. There are mixed reviews on the internet garden forums, but for me in 7B (humid Piedmont NC), it's a great rose so far. And again, gorgeous scent and deep violet-tinted magenta blooms! I'm loving this Austin rose! Perhaps the source of the plant makes a difference. If so, I recommend Roses Unlimited in SC, which is where I purchased mine via web order.
