I am thinking of ordering 'Dawn Crest' from LongAgo roses. How big does yours get, and do you grow yours in a sheltered spot? Could it be grown in a pot?

I’ve had mine for a couple of years - it’s around 3ft tall, arching. It is not in a sheltered spot at all, it’s in a fairly open area. I don’t know about growing it in a pot - I think this rose can get quite large, and I don’t know how it would overwinter in cold zones in a pot.

I have three of these. All own root. All 3 survived winter just fine here in zone 6b. (even the tiny one I rescued from my old house in SC, that had been mowed and moved in the middle of summer) With no protection. Dingo has told me Belinda's Dream survives in Chicago just fine as well. (Zone 5) This is a tough rose for me, and I'm no expert rose grower. Maybe it's a 5b iffy rose, but it definitely doesn't need zone 7 warmth. I would plant it if I lived in 5b and wanted it.

I have Belinda’s Dream both grafted and own root. They both die back to the ground every year, but bounce back pretty quickly. Good bloomer, nice repeat, planted in full sun most of the day. Stays clean for me here.

Dingo you are correct. Everywhere I had to cut is shooting up like mad. I think it's just so vigorous that it doesn't matter if the canes die back. As long as it's own root, or bud union is buried well, you're good to go. I don't favorite pinks usually, but I can say it's a favorite. No disease, and if bugs get on it, I never noticed. I didn't spray it with anything, and it was my largest first year own root of all time by fall.

Hi Dingo,
I'm thinking of getting this rose. Would you recommend it? I'm in Zone 5, NW Illinois.
Thx.

Hi Bella! I do recommend this one. It does get fairly large 4X4 maybe, and the canes will arch if you let them. It's pretty forgiving about pruning, and the re bloom is good. The blooms are not highly scented, and are long lasting. I will add another picture so you can see the whole shrub.

Thanks for the info! Did you purchase it own root or grafted?

I'm pretty sure its own root - I guess I haven't looked but I didn't know it was available grafted. Was on fall clearance a few years ago at Atrium. I don't remember seeing it offered locally since then. I think it would do fine own root. It does set fertile seed too if you ever want to play around with that.

This nursery appears to offer cut flowers only.
