I was considering buying this, because a healthy large-flowered mauve is honestly rare. Big Purple was used 5 times, but I am not seeing any reason its an improvement over it or Neptune. I consider Neptune a pretty amazing hybrid tea (see my photos on HMF of the blooms... they are unreal..). So, I dont know. Maybe someone that has grown it by next year can chime in and tell us if there is any improvement.

I think this is a very different variety from Neptune. Neptune is a huge flowered traditional upright HT best one to a stem, disbudded as needed. Perfume Factory is more a medium sized magenta/purple that should be left to bloom in clusters. PF is really more a compact bushy grandiflora or a large floribunda . I think a more direct competitor would be Melody Parfumee or Barbra Streisand as far as color , bloom and growth habit. Fragrance lives up to it’s name, consistently drenched in fruity rose scent. So far I’m impressed by generous bloom flushes and dense compact habit. Color does fade significantly as the bloom ages.

I actually bought two. Its a good rose. VERY mutable colors. I have seen between 3 to 5 different color tone mixes in this rose, depending on seasonal factors. It has nice foliage, the blooms are big enough, it smells good, and the vigor is better than most mauve roses. All in all, it has turned out nice.

I liked this rose a lot, but I found it really intolerant of dry weather during August, to the point that it would shed leaves. However, it seemed really rain proof.

No problem. I think this happens a lot in some bicolors, mauves, and yellows, where their stem/foliage cell walls are thinner and dry out more easily.

That’s very interesting, does the leaf loss start from the bottom up? Many of my purples such as Twilight Zone, Ebb Tide and Chartreuse de Parme lost their leaves in summer even without any apparent fungal disease.

My own root K and M was one of the most sun-proof, heat tolerant roses (along with Polynesian Punch) out of 80-plus container grown roses in Albuquerque NM the past 4 or so years. It is a continuous bloomer in all day sun with no color fading and good sized blooms, ie not noticeably smaller/stunted, I just had to keep it well watered, soaking the entire barrel every morning during the extended high temps period, which lasted a good 3 months, high 90's to over 100 degrees. I fed all my roses with water soluble fertilizer and sometimes fish emulsion, every 3-4 weeks, even during the big heat period. The key was water, though, in my opinion, K and M drinks a LOT of water, I can tell how much my container roses are drinking by the weight of the barrel the day after a soaking, and K and M drains the barrel more quickly than most (if not all) of the others. It seems like my healthiest, most productive container roses are the ones that are lusty drinkers, LOL. (Polynesian Punch is also a lusty drinker). Regarding leaf shedding, I did not notice any beyond what is normal for all roses. PS: both pics were taken during the big heat period.

The color of this rose very much depends on conditions and time of year. Now my blooms are yellow with light yellow edges. Zone 9B Sacramento Valley 100+ degrees in full sun. Thrives in the sun and heat.

I’m also in Sacramento Valley and agree with your assessment. Outstanding summer, performance, great vigor, takes the heat like a champ, maintaining generous bloom, excellent repeat. Size and petal count hold in heat , and especially long lasting for a yellow blend. Strong citrus scent. Has matured from a band to a full sized plant in 6 months, all around very impressive. Was Henri the family patriarch? Usually the patriarch gets the best rose.

Looking for a U.S. distributor for this rose (on or close to west coast / Bay Area, if possible). Looks amazing!

wow, Stunning! brand new rose gardener here! I just got a mellow yellow I love the color iron I’m hoping that it will start producing it it is sprouting new leaves all over the place, I had to cut it back a lot because it was growing straight up in one spot it was probably 6 feet tall and everyone else was like 2 feet tall. I thought I killed it but I didn’t it’s coming back with gusto and I’m just waiting to see what happens with all this new growth!

My mellow yellow was on a western wall and I discovered that my backyard was 12° hotter than the air so we had a string of 107° and so my backyard was 119° poor mellow yellow was too hot where it was and so I moved it onto a south wall where we get some morning sun and some afternoon sun but nothing as direct as what it was getting now it’s so happy and it’s blossoming beautifully with lots of new buds and it keeps blossoming and is very prolific.
