Sadly, my Valencia is about to be shovel pruned. I purchased it bare root last spring and had to pot it instead of putting in the ground. It never performed well at all, even though it was in an extremely large container and in full sun. This year, I had it transplanted to a good location in my yard and it has pretty much withered. I don't know if the winter took it's toll on it; or if the rose itself just wasn't healthy to begin with.

I grew this a few years back and it was the only rose that I actually had to shovel prune. Black spot over took it to the point of no return, in North NJ. I only got 2 blooms off it, although those were beautiful and the fragrance was wonderful. Not sure if it was because of where I purchased it from but I doubt I'd take another chance on this one.
