A while ago I saw a painting hanging on the wall in the local bar and restaurant and I thought it looked familiar. Until I suddenly realised it was my dining room window surrounded by roses. On top of that pleasant surprise I was given a poster last year with this as one of the photo motives. What an honour to inspire local artists this way! This photo was taken on the 18th of July 2012. The roses seen in the photo are "Coral Dawn", "Louise Odier" and "Rosenresli"

Arvid`s garden, Lista, the 10th of August 2011. My "Back of the house" so to speak has slowly improved over the years. Around a small herbal garden over various arches are rambling and scrambling following roses and clematises: From left to right: Perle d`Azur, Illusion, Mme Alfred Carriere,Antike, Henry Kelsey, Romantika, Alexander MacKenzie and Hansa. Other roses here, not visible or now visibly not in bloom are Roseanna, Awakening,Kordes Aloha, Morning Jewel, Rote Flamme, Laguna, Arndt, Shogun,Westerland,Parade,That`s Jazz, Jasmina, Nahema, Amadeus, Bonica Climbing ,Mozart and some others. Not blooming clematises here are White Jackmanii and The Vagabond. Not visible is Pink Fantasy. The white rose up front looks a lot like the hybrid Rugosa Blanc double de Coubert so much that I am certain it is the one. It was given to me a number of years ago by a friend and member of the local Garden Society as a sucker. She died recently of cancer, but her rose is still there blooming and thriving, as pretty as ever. And I hope it will be for many years to come. This is also a special quality we may cherish in roses or in plants in general for that matter. They remind us of someone.

Arvid`s garden, Lista, the 19th of August 2011. August is definitely the peak season for clematises; which is very good as many of the roses take a break now. In the photo are seen from left to right: "Blue Angel", "Niobe", "Carmencita" and "Perle d`Azur. A few flowers of the roses "Antike" and "Kir Royal" may also be visible in the photo.

Part of my garden around the patio as seen on the 1st of August 2011. This late in the season many roses take a break and the once blooming ones are finished. However if you look closely you may spot a cluster of "Dortmund" among the perennial sweet peas, some flowers of "Jacques Cartier", a flower of Westerland and one ditto of "Lilli Marleen". This is a peak season for Clematises, and in this photo to the right is a "Venosa Violacea" scrambling up the Westerland. Other plants in photo are "Lysimachia", "Monk`s Hood" , "Telekia", "Wild Tansy" and "Helenium". Others are not in bloom.

Arvid`s garden, Lista. the 1st of August 2011. The deep pink rose top left is the climber "Laguna" Other roses seen are "Lykkefund", "Aloha", "Etude", "Mme Plantier" and "Purity". Clematises in photo are "Mrs Cholmondeley" and "Rouge Cardinal". The top of the aluminium arche is still bare, but I believe the recently planted Wild Honeysuckle will be able to deal with that shortly.

The house as seen from the other side of the village road dividing my property in two. The red rose to the left on "this side" by the roadside growing next to the rugosas is according to the late Danish Rose Expert Valdemar Petersen a reflowering variety of the Apothecary`s Rose which he called "Rose de Provins". It has a rather protracted flush, but it has never reflowered in my garden. However I have come to like this rose. In my garden it has grown taller than The Apothecary`s Rose. The photo was taken on the 14th of July 2011.
