Hard pruning seems to suit this rose just fine... Like so many of the tall-growing Austin roses, Charles blooms only at the ends of the long canes when growing upright, which makes this shrub a great candidate for self-pegging. Named for the hybridizer's father...

This is a super rose but it does grow tall, and there seems to be a problem getting it to rebloom after a hard pruning -- it appears to need to grow tall again before reblooming... very full but shallow cups, quartered, soft pink blooms that are deeper-colored at the center and fade to blush white on the outer edges... named for Austin's daughter...
