John Champney in Carolina had the 'Musk Rose' and 'Old Blush'. C. 1802, one of these produced a hip, evidently pollinated by the other. From it came 'Champneys' Pink Cluster' scented like the 'Musk Rose', pink in colour, summer-flowering. Its value was realized when seed from it produced a light pink shrubby bush which flowered repeatedly, showing that the 'Old Blush' genes, masked in the earlier cross, were capable of influencing future generations 'Blush Noisette'.

Description. 'Country Lady' has an interesting habit: longish stems radiate from a point on the main branch to give a very wide spray effect, the individual blooms being large enough to pass as decorative hybrid teas.
