'Comtesse Vandal' rose Reviews & Comments

My passion is orange/red from the 60's and 70's and my "interest" is USA 1960-1990 but I have a weak spot for these pernetianas. SO CLOSE to "base line" with the colors, everything there seems a little unstable and glowing, all undershot gold or yellow.......................I first grew this one in Chico, CA in the 70's and again have had it (many times, um, keep reading) in Columbus, OH............................when it is happy it is amazing. Even happy, in my experience, the plant will be small and weak. But the color of the blooms is delicately extraordinary, buff with a red reverse fading peach? Something to that effect. And this one is a big personality as well because it opens the bloom looking very BROAD petaled and somehow, someway, overnight it will reflex into a spikey ball!I love that many of these bright/odd colored HT's are now recognized as the PERNETIANAS, a subset of HT, because they are a special group. They are tough to grow. Moody and weak, very blackspot prone, there is a quality both crude yet delicate about them all. "The modern rose is ALMOST there but something is missing." I cannot grow this one in Ohio. It just won't go here and I have given up. But it sure is a personality, it sure speaks to what was once in fashion and it is, when it is happy, one of the most gorgeous of those pernetiana relics.................anyone interested in the (short) history of the MODERN rose really needs to experience a few of these................there is a whole different "shade" of Cuba's lipstick pinkness as opposed to Fame! or Miss All-American Beauty..............a whole different "brightness" of the Countess's putty-apricot as opposed to Marilyn Monroe, etc..............

Dear sir/madam,
I would like to acquire one or two Comtesse Vandal plants. Could you help me find anusery which stocks them and is able to export them to Israel?
Roses nurseries in Israel have not had them for years.
with thanks,
Dina.

Use the BUY FROM tab to review the list of nurseries offering this rose. If none of them can supply it, you can add it to your HMF Wish list and we will contact you when if and when it becomes available.
