According to Suschkow, also the sorts 'Contrast', 'Ramon Bach', 'Leni Neuss', 'Kathrine Kordes' and especially 'Staatspräsident Päts' are suitable components for hybridisation, especially the last sort produces as seed plant vigorous shrubs with long, straight canes, which end with a bloom at the tip.

Contrast (Howard and Smith, 1937), one plant one year old: Very vivid bicolour and seems to have none of the Pernetiana faults that one is apt to expect in this colour group. Vigorous growth. Blooms not very large and usually have divided centres.

John Poulsen, NZ.  South Island Roses.
Contrast made extra nice growth and produced lovely colour, but the stem is inclined to be weak and there is a tendency for some of the flowers to droop. It is very free.

John Poulsen, South Island Roses.
Contrast. Splendid growth and foliage and very free flowering. Opening colour very fine. Often it has been a bright velvety red with a yellow reverse, later shading off to pink, with a whitish reverse. It is a very striking Rose, possessing considerable garden merit.

In Contrast HT. Howard & Smith have scored a definite success with a bicolour bloom after the style of 'Juliet', but on outstandingly vigorous, healthy growth. The habit is tall and upright, while the blooms carry 40 to 50 petals.

From the same [Howard and Smith] breeder, Mrs. Georgia Chobe, a larger spiral bloom of light pink, and Contrast, with fully double flowers of coppery pink with a straw coloured reverse, are both making friends. The former seemed to be the better Rose, although the public will go for the spectacular bloom of Contrast, even if it does fade quickly.
