"The Perfume of the Rose" By E. M. Holmes, FLS, FES
Since attempts will doubtless be made to imitate the perfume of the most popular scented roses, it may be of interest to direct attention to those in the several groups which are remarkable for their sweetness:
Of the Hybrid Perpetual or Damask rose group, the greatest favourite is, perhaps, General Jacqueminot [...] Victor Hugo is a similar rose, which flowers freely in the autumn. Other sweet-scented roses of this group are Alfred Colomb, Heinrich Schultheiss, Hugh Dickson, Lady Helen Stewart, Madame Victor Verdier, Oscar Cardel and Madame Isaac Pereire, Horace Vernet, Maurice Bernardin, Pierre Notting, Eugene Furst and Abel Carriere.

Translation:
New and newest roses from Peter Lambert-Trier at the horticultural exhibition in Mainz.....
Lambert's most striking new roses were Schneekönigin (Frau Karl Druschki), Oskar Cordel and Hof-Gartendirektor Graebener, all three of which are already on sale. The large snow-white remontant rose Schneekönigin, pictured in the year 1900, page 385, which was given the unwieldy name Frau Karl Druschki in a very unnecessary way, was noticed even by visitors who only glanced briefly over the roses. The flower unfolds exquisitely; If it is cut and placed in water, it develops from a medium bud to the largest flower and then lasts 5-6 days. It is a valuable rose for vase decoration.   In bright red, i.e. in carmine red, showed the same characteristics Oskar Cordel, which seems to be becoming a mass variety as a forcing and group rose. Hof-Gartendirektor Graebener had large, beautifully shaped and beautifully colored flowers in several glasses that made a striking impression.
