We grow Flora, another Sempervirens Hybrid, against a grey totara fence beside Fuchsia arborescens from Mexico. The full rosy blooms of Flora, larger than those of Adelaide d'Orléans, fade to a creamy-lavender. These flowers, drooping over the Fuchsia, contrast pleasantly with the rosy-purple, lilac-like sprays. A perfect way to train this rose is up through a tree - the way it is often grown in England, where the moist atmosphere suits it well. With us, when the weather is hot and dry, the imported Flora must be sprayed and well watered if it is to be kept in a healthy condition.
