Yet another synonym: Roxana

American Gardening 14(1): 13 (Jan 1893)
Old-Time Roses
H. G. Pratt, California
Gloire de Rosomanes has traveled faster than its name. The writer knew it for years as Roxana, and regrets that Roxana it could not continue to be. It is a strong, clean, pretty and sweet rose. No ordinary amount of abuse seems to discourage it, but it grows on, and blooms on, summer and winter, in this climate, with a persistency equaled by few, if any, other roses. True, the flower is almost single, and lasts only a day or two, but the color is a dazzling crimson, and its odor delightful and penetrating.

The Garden 60: 178 (Sept 14, 1901)
Riviera Garden Roses

Old Roses are, you will see, all my theme, so I feel no compunction in saying that the old Rose Gloire des Rosomanes, semi-double though it be, is the only perfectly perpetual winter-blooming climbing red Rose yet raised. It is the only old Rose that is never flowerless throughout the severest weather on this coast, and it is particularly brilliant and fragrant both in autumn and in spring when the Banksian Roses need a rich red to contrast with their white and golden-buff tones. It is well known to many folk as the Bordighera Rose, though I do not know it is more abundant there than elsewhere. One of its seedlings, General Jacqueminot, is a household word, known and grown everywhere, and there are two more of its seedlings worth mention— Bardou Job which has merit, though it is not a winter bloomer, and also the new Noella Nabonnand, which is a decided advance in size and beauty, and is said to be a really good winter-blooming deep red Rose, a desideratum in these parts.

Gardeners’ Chronicle (Feb 11, 1888) p. 168

Gloire de Rosamène.—This may be regarded, I think, as having a great deal to do with the brilliant coloured Roses belong to the H.P. class, Général Jacqueminot is generally considered to have been a seedling from this, and although at times it is hardly double enough—partaking in this respect too much of the character of its parent—yet there are times when it stands out above all the high-coloured Roses; and although forty years and more have elapsed since it was first sent out, it has more than once lately run an extremely close race for the medal for the best Rose in the show. The General has also been the parent, evidently, of many of our high-coloured Roses, so that, if for this reason only, Gloire de Rosamène ought to find a place in the rosarian’s garden; but as a pillar Rose it is very beautiful, being brilliant in colour and very free flowering.
