Hybrid Rugosa. Explorer Series [Canadian].
Bloom:
Pink. Spice fragrance. 25 petals. Average diameter 3". Semi-double (9-16 petals), cupped bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Habit:
Height of 4' to 6' 7" (120 to 200 cm). Width of 4' to 5' (120 to 150 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 2b through 8b. Very hardy. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.
Notes:
Sets a few hips.
In September 1998, the Montreal Botanical Garden (Le Jardin Botanique de Montreal) carried out a survey of its roses' resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust. This is one of the outstanding varieties which showed a 0% to 5% infection rate. The data were taken on well-established roses.
The Swedish Rose Society recommends Jens Munk for northern Sweden.
Jens Munk was a Norwegian explorer born in the town of Arendal on June 3rd 1579 (thanks for the correction Brit W.) who reached Hudson Bay in 1619. However, out of his entire crew, only Munk, an older man, and a young boy managed to survive their first winter in the new land and miraculously sailed back to Denmark, reaching Copenhagen on Christmas Day 1620.
