Origin:
Bred by Jacques-Julien Margottin père (1817-1892) (France, 1853).
Introduced in Australia by John J. Rule, Victoria Nursery in 1860 as 'Jules Margottin'.
Class:
Hybrid Bourbon, Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Cherry-red, carmine-pink shading, purple shading.  Moderate, opinions vary fragrance.  90 petals.  Average diameter 4.75".  Very large, very full (41+ petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped, globular, scalloped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Large, rounded buds.  
Habit:
Tall, armed with thorns / prickles, upright.  Glossy, dark green, dense foliage.  5 to 7 leaflets.  

Height: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm).  Width: 3' (90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Very vigorous.  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to Mildew.
