Does this need special care? I got a great looking bush from a reputable nursery a year ago and it has had one bloom on since. Other roses around it are happy. I'm in San Francisco area.

This is a good rose! Much more disease resistant than your average lavender/purple. The fragrance is to die for. Not a great cut flower, though, only lasting two days or so in a vase. However, when in full bloom it makes quite a statement in the garden.

Does anyone know if this rose is prickly like "Heirloom". I cut roses for the vase, and would like the ones with smoother upper cane. Thanks.

I have been rather impressed with my first year bareroot bush of Nicole Carol Miller. I planted it this past Spring 2009 and it has taken off quite nicely. The bush is elegant looking with perfectly sized foliage of a medium green that so far has stayed very healthy with my regular spray program. The flowers are a really pretty shade of light mauve with just a darker tinge around the edges. And, the flowers are nicely fragrant. Not so strong that they knock you over, but the fragrance is strong and pleasant and reminds me of some older perfumes and fragrances that I recall from my childhood on my older female relatives, LOL. Overall, I think this is a lovely garden rose and will be a good addition to my roses as the years go on.
I highly recommend this one to other rosarians looking for a nice fragrant mauve with lovely flowers. I haven't cut many for vases yet so I can't comment as to her quality there. But it does last 8-10 days on the bush so I would think at worst that it might blow a bit fast in the house, but we'll just have to wait and see after I try it a few times.

Be sure to give this one a try. It is a good rose and has a good reason to be named in honor of an American hero.

John
