422.—Rose Sulphurea. — One of the Scotch Roses is named Sulphurea. If that is the one you have, you may plant it in any sunny position in your garden where the soil is fairly dry. Scotch Roses grow in the form of a low bush, and spread freely by sending out fresh suckers from the roots. More than 20 years ago, we grew another Rose under the name of Sulphurea superba, but this belongs to the Chinese section. Though not unlike some of the old Tea-scented varieties, this old Rose is not quite so hardy as the Scotch, but it is a suitable Rose for the mixed border, where the soil is pretty deep and moderately rich. —J. Tea - Lutescens flavescens jaune yellow Vigorous shrub; strong branches; large, full, globulous flower; remarkably beautiful elongated bud; same shading as Maréchal Niel; colour of the flower is bright yellow, bordered with sulphur yellow; one of the most beautiful old tea roses.

Lutescens. (Flavescens, Jaune, Yellow). Sulphur-yellow bloom, large and double, globular, later fluttery. The petals are very large, the buds long and beautiful in semi-expanded state. The old known yellow Tea rose, but has almost disappeared from the collections. The mother of yellow Tea and Noisette roses.

Cette précieuse variété pour les fleuristes [Safrano] date de 1839, elle est issue très probablement, suivant nos renseignements particuliers, de graines provenant de l'ancien thé jaune, seul rosier qui, à cette époque, rapportait des fruits, atteignant souvent la grosseur d'une noix.
Cet ancien thé jaune, a malheureusement disparu des cultures, on ne le retrouve plus nulle part.
