Frank Mason.  Poulsen Roses.
Some of the newer Poulsens are rather fleeting in colour.  Pinocchio and Floradora are particularly so.
They both do better in the autumn, when they can be given partial shade.

Rose Nomenclature
By the Editor
As no doubt some of our members are aware, a very unsatisfactory situation with respect to Rose names has arisen within the past few years due to the practice of certain large commercial firms in re-naming Roses of European origin, contrary to and in defiance of "International Rules of Botanical Nomenclature" and its supplementary schedule known as Appendix VII (Nomenclature of Garden Plants).
Valid Name: Rosenmarchen
Re-christened: Pinocchio

Ten Outstanding Hybrid Polyantha Roses.  Pinocchio. Originally sent out from Germany (by the raiser of Orange Triumph) as Rosenmarchen, it was renamed in the U.S.A. where it is a great favourite. One American rose firm calls it "The All-Purpose Wonder of Rosedom" and goes on to say, "Not in years has any other new flower so swept the nation with its popularity. —nor influenced so greatly the rose vogue of its time! With Pinocchio's enchanting counterparts in the family of Floribunda roses, America has been given a new conception of what roses can do in any garden, from smallest doorstep planting to vast estate and how easy it is for anyone to grow beautiful roses. One of the best known and most loved of all roses, Pinocchio is extremely hardy, very easy to grow, always in bloom from early summer till late autumn with hundreds of flowers on every bush. Great clusters of exquisite pointed buds open gradually to long-lasting exhibition roses in miniature, one and a half inches across. The winsome buds are rich salmon flushed with gold, gradually changing to soft clear pink as the flowers open and acquiring deeper pink edges, setting the entire plant aglow with pastel harmony. Incomparable for bouquets and arrangements. In the garden Pinocchio has many uses and generously fulfils them all. Rugged, disease-resistant, 20 to 24 inches tall."

p140.  Mr. And Mrs. C. A. Homan.  The New Roses in Queensland
Rosenmarchen. Now also called Pinocchio. (It is a pity that the original title given to roses is not more respected.)  The most notable addition to the polyantha class.  Beautiful pinkish spricot blooms borne in clusters of 30 to 40 flowers. The growth is vigorous but the heads are not produced on the same long stems as Eutin. No garden of roses should be without this superb variety. The colour is splendid even in the hot summer days, and the delightfully shaped double blooms open more slowly than most in this class.
