Sonia HT. (Meilland). A very pleasing colour of soft coral-pink. The buds are very nicely shaped, and the blooms hold very well. This rose is listed as a floribunda in some overseas catalogues, and it does tend to cluster, particularly in the spring. Later blooms are more solitary.

Sonia, Fl. (Meiilland, 1972). ('Baccara' x 'Message'). A most beautiful, well formed and long lasting, uniformly coloured salmon-pink rose with 25 petals. It is superb when grown under glass but it is less consistent in the open garden in Europe - it could be better in warmer climates. Already 'Sonia' would account for at very least a third of the roses sold by florists in Europe. It is a new colour in this exclusive club in which only about five cultivars are sold in big numbers. Alain Meilland named it for his only child. He sent 25 long stemmed blooms of it to await our arrival at a hotel in southern France. Type C (one to three flowers in each panicle - this is called a "Floribunda of H.T. Type" in Britain). Sold as 'Sweet Promise' in Britain.
