My first SG with naked roots has remained spindly and the new canes that came off were easily broken by kids or dogs jumping the low wall. The second one (2012) - in pot - has done much better flowered all summer and grown well. What color! from the new leaves in spring - orangy- rust to the buds and blooms.

I've grown this in the past, right next to Lemon Spice. Sorta liked the two-toned yellow effect and the knock-'em-dead scents of both. (I had Oklahoma, Fragrant Cloud and Maria Callas in the same patch. Excuse me, but I'm a Callas admirer and I refuse to call that rose Miss All-American Beauty, a silly name if ever there was one.)

I have to admit that in my garden Sutter's Gold wasn't a good plant for cut flowers: it opens too dang fast, ker-flop! Still I miss it--I love saffron yellow and I loved that scent.

To tell the truth, the only roses that do really well in my hot, wet Florida garden are the old roses that hark back to hot, wet parts of China: Teas, Banksia, the Chinquapin Rose, and Marechal Niel (known locally as "Marshall Neill").
