L. J. Kimber. Brisbane Municipal Rose Gardens.
The Bruce Highway, the main northern approach to the city of Brisbane has been transformed into a most beautiful picture indeed. Extending approximately for a mile are to be seen carefully prepared rose garden plots, neatly enclosed with cement kerbing; these in twin formation extend the whole distance. The width of the road permits the trams to travel between the well ordered rose plots, with vehicular traffic flowing on the right and left of the rose beds. Each plot averages about 465 plants and is complete, as far as possible, with the one variety of rose - carefully labelled. All the roses in this area are polyanthas. Other varieties grown are Francisque Favre....

Alex Ross, Ashton, South Australia. Polyantha Roses.
In the single-flowered type the most successful varieties are Alice Amos, 'Britannia',and Mdme Francisque Favre, the three sorts being very much alike, of a bright crimson colour with a white eye. 'Beauty of New South Wales' and 'Eglantine' would, no doubt, do well in a cool climate, but are quite useless with us.
