Does anyone grow both Dorisy's and Vibert's 'Sidonie'? I'm wondering if they're both still around, and how to tell which is which.

I believe what is in gardens and commerce is all the same rose - Vibert's. Modern Roses has mixed up the two roses in its description and made an HP from Dorisy out of the two. Vibert's 'Sidonie' was a seedling of 'Belle de Trianon', thus a Damask perpetual. Later this class was subsumed into Hybrid Perpetuals. Dorisy's rose is named 'Sydonie Dorisy' in early sources, and always listed as a Bourbon.

Thank you. It would be useful to others if you transferred your comment to the file for Dorisy's Sidonie. The De Trianon HPs are survivors (helped by the tendency to sucker); I think we have both Sidonie and Joasine Hanet persisting in old cemeteries and gardens in Aus.

(This is a repeat from the General/Miscellaneous category, which seems less popular this this Other category): 1. Who was Mme Leonie Viennot? 2. Does anyone know anything about the 1891 hybrid perpetual 'Monsieur de Morand'? (How tall and wide does it grow? Will it tolerate any shade? Who was Morand?)

I can't promise you will have a better shot at getting answers but it would be better if you posted questions about specific plants using the Questions & Comments tab for those plants. That way any resulting discussions will be linked to and displayed with the respective plant.

At rosarosam's website http://www.rosarosam.com/articles/lloyd_chapman/souvenir_de_mme_leonie_viennot.htm it says that Mme Leonie Viennot was the wife of a rose breeder who created only one rose (that is one that is still known).

Would someone visiting Sangerhausen or L'Hay please take and post ID-type photos of Sodenia? (Flowers with something to show the scale, eg a hand; reverse of flower; side view of bud; side view of prickles; foliage). It's in other gardens too. Thanks!
