Two of my rosebushes (Dream Come True, and Gold Medal) are throwing out basal canes in the middle of December. This is my first year growing roses and would hate to lose these canes. Right now the lows are occasionally hitting 32 degrees F. None of the people that live in my area are doing anything to protect their roses ( and apparently don't do much for their roses during the growing season either, as my rose bushes look far superior to anything my neighbors have ). Usually the lowest it will get here is around 15 degrees in January. Should I wrap these with some burlap or something or will they be okay?? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Penelope, is it possible You gave the rose a late gift of fertilizer this Year?
Maybe You could cover (the base of) the canes with branches/twigs of fir, or branches/twigs of other pine-trees.

I put granular fertilizer, but I honestly don't remember when. Maybe I should start keeping better track of that. And as far as the pine/fir, there's not one of those within 5 miles of me I'm sure...unless you count the Wal-Mart christmas tree selection...I guess I'll have to make-do with the burlap.

Penelope, i really don't know what a burlap is, but You might use a reed- or rush-mat.

It's a brown loosely woven fabric also used for potato sacks. Alot of people here use it for wrapping tropicals like hibiscus and lemon trees, but I just moved mine into the garage this year.

I don't know where you are located but out in So. Cal. I sometimes use hay which you can pack around the plant without damaging tender growth. Covering this with newspaper has worked for some in colder climates. However, if your area will sustain a long cold winter, you will probably lose this growth. Good luck.

Hello everybody !
writing you from France, looking for "Royal Sunset" wonderfull climbing rose, but it is very difficult to find it in Europe. I looked in belgum, England also, but no way, i can't find it.
Does anyone here know where i can buy it ? maybe a american nursery could sell and send it in France ?

Type "Polo" into the search/lookup engine, find the rose you're looking for (there are two roses named "Polo") and then check the "buy from" tab for sources. Good luck!

I am looking for a Jillian rose (by McGredy roses). It's for a family that just lost their 8 year old daughter after a long battle of cancer. We would love to give one to them in her memory. We are having problems locating one (in Ontario, Canada) and we can't seem to find an email address for McGredy roses. Can anyone help? It would be very much appreciated.
