Ok, so if there was a species or a hybrid you guys and gals would recommend for rust resistance, what would it be?

I've never seen rust on any of the Gigantea hybrids.

Hello,

I have couple rose plants at my home. Some planted my departed father, some I planted.
I cant identify all but I sure all is before 1995 and maybe 1990. Except a two who I get at local store.

Roses is Westerland (climber, shrub / orange), Don Juan (climber / red), Casino (climber / yellow), Swan lake (climber / white), Maria Callas (Hybrid Tea / pink).
Also I'm not sure about couple more so I will post pictures for identification.

I'm little confused (newer doing this before, I want to start hybridizing roses) about right for seeds like open pollination and crosspollination. Can someone explain me can I use this five roses for open pollination and crosspollination? If I good understand, patents expires after 20, 25 years so that mean I can use this seeds from this roses?

I'm new in this filed and need help what I can and what I can't do.

Thank you.

I don't know of any legal restrictions on using roses for breeding. The first thing you should check, before you pollinate a rose, is whether it sets hips. If it doesn't, pollinating it will usually be a waste of time. (I made that mistake when I started!) Swan Lake has no recorded children, so I wouldn't try it. The other four all set hips and have been used for breeding, both as seed (female) parent and as pollen (male) parent.
Good luck!

Thank you for this tip for "Swan Lake". I will keep this in mind.
I little confused about plant patents, does that patents affects breeding from seeds...

As far as I know, plant patents don't affect breeding from a plant.

Does anyone know if 'Princesse Impériale' is sterile? I only see one unique descendant for it which is a sport. I breed roses and have a 'Souvenir de la Malmaison', but I would like to use its sport 'Princesse Impériale' as well.
