We're looking for a climbing rose to grow on a north east facing house wall but the labels on all of them at our local nursery just say they grow best in full sun, which is not very helpful for us! We'd welcome any suggestions.
Many thanks,
Jola

The rule of thumb for any rose is that it should have at least 6 hours of sunlight. Roses are sun lovers. However, there are some roses that are more shade tolerant than others. Some roses can get by with 4 hours of sunlight. But in my experience, the same cultivar is always better if it gets more. The plants tend to "reach for the sun" and get kind of leggy. It's hard to give any recommendations when you haven't given some indication as to where you are gardening.
