Bred by J. C. Schmidt / Blumenschmidt (Germany, 1915).
Class:
Hybrid Multiflora.  
Bloom:
Mauve or purple blend.  Reddish-violet.  Mild, violets fragrance.  Average diameter 1.25".  Small, double (17-25 petals), in large clusters bloom form.  
Habit:
Climbing, few or no prickles/thorns.  Glossy, dark green foliage.  

Height: 6'7" to 9'10" (200 to 300cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Named after a castle in the town of Gotha. Often confused with 'Veilchenblau'. According to Christiane Frost, the blooms of 'Schloss Friedenstein' are reddish violet in the centre and the "blue" more intense.
