ARS:
Medium red Floribunda. Registration name: Baby Château
Bloom:
Crimson. Mild to strong fragrance. Large, double (17-25 petals), cluster-flowered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Habit:
Upright, well-branched. Glossy, dense foliage.
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
Notes:
In the RNRS's 1953 The Rose Annual article "Kordes' Masterpiece," Wilhelm Kordes says, "The pollen from this ['Ami Quinard'] gave me a near black but badly burning seedling with 'Robin Hood' (Pemberton's) as seed parent. The pollen from this again on to long forgotten 'Aroma' gave me 'Baby Chateau' . . .." The parentage Kordes gives here, Aroma x (Robin Hood x Ami Quinard), differs from what has been listed in Modern Roses. This discrepancy was pointed out by one of our members, Robert Rippetoe.
