John Champney in Carolina had the 'Musk Rose' and 'Old Blush'. C. 1802, one of these produced a hip, evidently pollinated by the other. From it came 'Champneys' Pink Cluster' scented like the 'Musk Rose', pink in colour, summer-flowering. Its value was realized when seed from it produced a light pink shrubby bush which flowered repeatedly, showing that the 'Old Blush' genes, masked in the earlier cross, were capable of influencing future generations 'Blush Noisette'.
