Book (2003) Page(s) 242. ‘Allen Chandler’ (Chandler, introduced by Alfred Prince, 1923] ‘Hugh Dickson’ seedling. This Hybrid Tea-type climber is still the best red-flowered semi-double climber. The lightly scented flowers are brilliant crimson scarlet and large (12-14cm), with wavy petals and sometimes a white base behind the handsome, broad boss of stamens. They are borne in small clusters (typically three flowers) on long stems, abundantly produced early in the season. The plant is seldom without flowers until winter; it has large orange red hips and typical Hybrid tea-type leaves. It grows vigorously to 5m.
