'Débutante' rose References
Book  (2016)  Page(s) 66.  Includes photo(s).

Debutante .....Long hanging clusters of small, double, light soft pink flowers fade to palest pink.  The color is much lighter than 'Dorothy Perkins'.  A rose with medium pink flowers was sold incorrectly as 'Debutante' for many years before the true variety was rediscovered on Cape Cod near Walsh's place of work.  Little scent can be detected.  There is one spectacular summer bloom and no repeat.  The canes have shiny leaves and few prickles and will reach a height of 15 to 16 feet (5 meters).

Debutante R[ambler] (HWich) Occasional rebloom.  Moderate fragrance. Habit [diagram] 3.  [Provenance Beales].  Fragrant, double rose-pink blooms in modest clusters wreath the long flexible branches of this cross between Rosa wichurana  and the famous old Hybrid Perpetual, 'Baroness Rothschild' [Baronne Adolphe de Rothschild). A rose much admired by Graham Thomas, who used it with 'Bleu Magenta' at Mottisfont Abbey.

p102.  ...the overall appearance [of] 'Frau Helene Videnz' is reminiscent of the better known 'Debutante'.

p116. ....the overall effect [of] 'Cato'  is of a pink rose of the 'Debutante' type.

p125. .....the healthy bright green leaves [of] 'Kde Domov Muj' are reminiscent (as are the flowers) of the better known 'Debutante'.

'Debutante' [Walsh, 1901]. This is a very good rambler indeed, although I question its alleged parentage of Rosa wichurana  x 'Baronne Adolphe de Rothschild'.  The flowers are a beautiful clear rose pink when they open and fade to creamy pink with a hint of lilac in hot weather.  They are profusely borne in long, small clusters so that the whole plant seems to cascade with flowers.  The flowers are lightly scented and fully double.  The outer petals fold back so that the full-blown flower forms an irregular ball of reflexed petals.  They are produced midseason on a vigorous, slender plant which grows quickly to 5m.  The leaves are neat, dark and glossy - very Wichurana.

Debutante Rambler. Walsh (USA) 1902. 'Baroness Rothschild' x Rosa wichuraina... rose pink blooms on short stems... the clusters fade quickly in the sun... The healthy, dark green glossy foliage is not subject to mildew

.....beautiful though she (Dorothy Perkins) is, there are other ramblers that I would choose ahead of her, but this is on the strength of her proneness to mildew alone.   Alternatives -  not necessarily in order of preference - are ‘Debutante’,  ‘Minnehaha’ and ‘Ethel’.

Débutante.  Walsh, US.  1902.  Rosa wichuraiana x ‘Baroness Rothschild’(1868).  At first sight similar to ‘Dorothy Perkins’,  but infinitely more beautiful,  of better colour and not subject to mildew.   Dark green, rounded, neat foliage, similar to R. wichuraiana, and long dainty sprays of bloom set with pale green bracts.  Flowers cupped at first, later reflexing with quilled petals;  clear rose-pink fading to blush.  A charming rambler for all purposes, and delightful for cutting.   Delicate primrose fragrance.  Undoubtedly the best pink rambler in its section.   15 feet.   (Best pictures:
