Débutante.  Rambler.  ‘Débutante’ looks  very like ‘Dorothy Perkins’,  but it has qualities that many rosarians consider to be superior - the color is paler and more delicate;   the flowers are scented (though not powerfully);  and, above all,  the glossy green foliage is usually free from mildew.   Yet it is ‘Dorothy Perkins’ that everyone knows and plants.  ‘Débutante’  was raised by the American rosarian M. H. Walsh and introduced in 1902.

p126.  Debutante of 1902, at first sight reminds one of the well-known 'Dorothy Perkins' but is infinitely more beautiful and delicately fragrant.  It has neat dark green foliage and the flower sprays are delightfully set with pale green bracts.

p128.  Debutante, rather pale, after a a hot day.  ....should have their old flowered shoots removed from the base immediately after flowering, in order to encourage strong new shoots which in turn will bear the flowering shoots for the next summer.

Linley Wood.  Ramblers and Scramblers.
Another beautiful sport from ‘Dorothy Perkins’ is ‘Dorothy Dennison’.    This is a much paler and softer pink than the parent.    Both sports show all the Wichuriana characteristics.    Some of the other pink wichurianas are ‘Debutante’, ‘Minnehaha’, ‘Lady Godiva’ (paler), ‘Lady Gay’ is darker than ‘Dorothy Perkins’ with looser sprays.    It is much less prone to mildew.
Book  (1983)  Page(s) 147.  Includes photo(s).

Debutante.   (1902)  This very pretty rose has a light scent.  Its flowers are smallish, double and clear rose-pink.   The plant grows at least 5 metres in height or length and is non-recurrent but does have a few late flowers.   Excellent for all reasons.
