Origin:
Bred by Eugène Verdier fils aîne (France, 1875).
Introduced in Australia by Edwin Smith, Clifton Nursery in 1885 as 'Abel Carrière'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Crimson, purple shading, violet shading.  Strong fragrance.  45 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Large, full (26-40 petals) bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, upright.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to Mildew, susceptible to rust .

Notes:
Élie-Abel Carrière was a French horticulturalist, botanist, author and- from 1866 until his death thirty years later- an editor-in-chief of Revue horticole. He born in May-en-Multien (Seine-et-Marne) on June 4, 1818, and died in Paris on August 17, 1896.
