Two Roses of fainly recent introduction, President Charles Hain and Mme. Jules Guérin, are so similar as to be practically indistinguishable. Most Members are familiar with them, from the magnificent exhibition blooms of these varieties which have frequently adorned boxes at the Society's Shows. What is probably less known is that with moderately short pruning and reasonable thinning, they are excellent garden Roses, making a shapely bush and producing flowers of excellent form and colour freely and continuously. The blooms last well in water, and the foliage is very beautiful and disease resisting.
The only fault I have to find with them is that they are a little impatient of rain.

Président Charles Hain makes a fine plant with the vigor of ['Souvenir Claudius Pernet'], marvelously shaped buds, good fragrance and mammoth blooms, but, alas, it is almost as much pink as it is yellow in this [Ohio] climate. It is a little more yellow, perhaps, than 'Joanna Hill,' but by no stretch of the imagination can it be called a really yellow rose. I like it, nevertheless... After 'Max Krause', the race for second place among yellows in my garden lies between 'Mrs. Pierre S. du Pont', 'Golden Dawn' (absolutely the finest non-Pernetiana yellow rose in the world), 'Président Charles Hain,' 'Mrs. E.P. Thom', 'Eldorado', 'Roselandia', ' and 'Soeur Thérèse'.
