I live in zone 6B in Connecticut and I have been disappointed to find that this rose has a good amount of blackspot, but even so, it is thriving here in full sun. I planted it a few months ago and it's been a hot, humid summer. It seemed to go dormant during the hottest period, but appears to be blooming nicely again in early September. So far it has not been a prolific bloomer, but I am hopeful that it will be more prolific next year. The flowers are gorgeous and the fragrance is almost shockingly delicious!

This year it did not do well at all. It produced no more than 10 flowers all season (and that is a generous estimate), and I nicknamed it "The Black Spot Nightmare." Other roses in the same area thrived, this one disappointed and I finally dug it up in October and planted something else there.

Hello, Rose Lovers...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Intrigue does well for me here on the Cental Coast of California. As long as it doesn't get too foggy, it remains disease free. However, my plant is still small (less than 2 feet) after 6 years or so, but it is in a container. I will try watering it more often. Thanks Lyn and others for your advice...................................................................................................................

My Question: Why is Intrigue classified as a floribunda, as it blooms only one to a stem? I thought that floribundas bloomed in sprays. Is that how yours bloom? I bought mine from a very small nursery. Was it perhaps mislabeled? Do they produce more blooms per stem when they get larger? Mine is strong and healthy, smells as you all described, and blooms a rich violet of various shades. Beautiful dark green leaves, stem are not very long. Hmm, It just occured to me that one reason its not taller is because I cut alot of stem so that I can have the flowers in vases in the house. ................................Signed, 7Heavens (Why am I being called Unregistered guest?) As you may have guessed, I'm new here.

Hi, 7Heavens. The short answer as to how Intrigue was classed as a floribunda is that in almost every instance (there are rare exceptions), the rose is registered to the class that the hybridizer specifies. So...Warriner said floribunda. You'll notice that many of the shots posted show single blooms. This appears be a variety that blooms both singly and in clusters. In my experience, single blooms to a stem are not diagnostic of HT vs. Floribunda. Granada blooms in clusters all the time, as does Just Joey. Sunsprite produces single blooms on a stem occasionally. It's the hybridizer's say so.

Hi 7Heavens,

I'm a newbie here too. My Intrigue Rose is blooming with both sprays and in single stem blooms, so I guess it meets florabunda standards.

This rose not only has an "intriguing" colour...but an intense fragrance as well. The blooms are also beautifully formed. So far the plant has stayed on the small side as advertised. It had a few nice flushes last year and I was very pleased with its blooms. Dappled pm shade out of the blazing mid summer sun is a good idea for this one as the blooms are so much better off for it. Intrigue can suffer from blackspot, but I'm happy to fight it off for those gorgeous and intensely fragrant blooms. I dont know of another rose that possesses a combination of its shading, intense fragrance and bloom form. Decent repeat bloom as well. This one's a keeper.
