Origin:
Bred by Jean-Pierre Vibert (France, 1848).
Introduced in Australia by Tasmania Botanical Gardens in 1859 as 'Pius the Ninth'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Light pink, crimson shading.  Moderate fragrance.  Average diameter 3.75".  Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Few or no prickles/thorns.  Glossy, light green foliage.  3 to 7 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Pope Piux IX (May 13, 1792 - February 7, 1878), elected pope on June 16, 1846, was called Pio Nono in Italian.
