Frank Benardella tells us ans means little girl in Dutch. It was named by Ludwig Taschner after the woman who handled rose exports for the Government of South Africa. She was the lady responsible for getting the miniature cut flower industry started. She picked this red mini, 'Ans', to be used at her wedding.
