Bred by Barbier Frères & Compagnie (France, 1901).
Class:
Climber, Hybrid Wichurana, Large-Flowered Climber.  
Bloom:
Light pink, cherry-red center, copper shading.  Mild fragrance.  Average diameter 2.25".  Medium, very double, in small clusters bloom form.  Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.  
Habit:
Climbing.  Glossy, dark green foliage.  
Height of 9' 10" to 13' 1" (300 to 400 cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Very vigorous.  
Notes:
Named for Auguste Barbier's father in law

The September 2007 issue of The New Zealand Heritage Rose Journal reports how New Zealand rosarians compared the rose in commerce there as May Queen to Edmond Proust in Sangerhausen and la Roseraie de l'Häy. It appears the rose called May Queen in New Zealand is indeed Edmond Proust.
