'Elie Beauvilain' rose Reviews & Comments

Responding to Jedmar's comment in picture no 60989 of 'Elie Beauvilain':
I have found this rose in Western Australia in five different old properties and now have six plants of it, none of them doing REALLY well, but this is a cool and damp climate.
I saw 'Elie Beauvilain' in Gregg and Phillip's garden in California and it seemed to be the same as the rose I grow in Western Australia. I have always been fascinated by the rose but never really happy with the i.d. of 'Elie Beauvilain' because of the lack of the name in the Australian literature/catalogues.
It did enter Australia though, and the only catalogue reference I have been able to find was E. B. Heyne, South Australia, who listed it in their 1900 catalogue and described it as "white, tinted silvery-rose on coppery ground, large and full." Patricia
