Crown Princess Mag. bloomed when I gave it horse manure high in potassium. As own root she's very prickly with many sharp thorns, gets large, spreading 5 to 6 feet canes, This rose needs space & water, but quite disease resistant. The bloom in hot summer is whitish beige, will be darker orange when it's cooler.

I have seen it growing and thriving in a Zone 5 garden. It looked quite healthy, and has lots of buds and half opened flowers.

Splendid Austin rose here in the UK... Its just about perfect, actually! Vigorous, bloomy and has healthy, semi-glossy, no-trouble foliage... Beautiful petal-packed roses that hold up well to the elements and time with a delicious fragrance to boot... One of my favourites.

With all the heavy, foggy weather this summer, many of my roses have suffered badly from rust, some of them have completely defoliated. Some of my roses were untroubled by rust and carried on blooming with all their leaves in disease-free condition. Here are the winners of this summer's "rustoleum challenge":
Crown Princess Margareta, Sally Holmes, Antique 89, Dublin Bay, Westerland, Eglantyne, Sombreuil , Special Occasion, and Graham Thomas (GT has no rust, but moderate blackspot)

I'm looking for a rose this color that is healthy. What size plant is this in your garden?

I have it growing as a pillar rose -- trained up and through a metal obelisk. It is now about 5' tall, and would probably be as wide if I didn't treat it as a pillar. I suspect it might like to grow larger, but it is planted in a spot in my garden that has not been kind to roses in the past. In fact, three roses have struggled there in the past and were all removed for lack of vigor. CPM has broken the curse and is looking very healthy indeed and covered with plump buds in late April of 2010.

Thanks, I just planted a bed of orangey roses, but a couple of them look really sick, especially for this time of year. "Outrageous" is one that looks pretty bad. Lots of blackspot and leaf drop already, and the buds haven't even opened. "Westerland" was bought at the same place at the same time, and looks great. So does "Lady Emma Hamilton", but it was bareroot, so all the leaves are brand new. It looks like it will be a nice bushy, healthy plant, and I love the reddish new growth. I think "CPM" might be a bit too big for the spot I need to fill, but it's nice to know Austin is breeding healthier roses now. Thanks again!

Hi, Jeff. No rust as the year goes on?

No rust that I recall. I have an Abraham Darby growing about 8 feet away which always gets rust by July (why do I have this plant in my garden?) but Crown Princess Margareta is basically disease-free. The now foliage is a lovely plum color, too.

How does your plant look at this time of year? Reblooming yet? I think I need this one.

It's covered in buds and just about to open for second flush of blooms. No rust and most of my roses have had an awful year with rust so far. The wet and chilly weather in May was a disaster for my roses and set up perfect conditions for rust this summer. CPM is clean.

This is a healthy vigorous rose that grows very well on its own roots. Rebloom is good, though short of continuous. The flowers are perfect, quartered and the fragrance is strong. This rose does well in a cold climate, quite hardy and rebounds quickly from winter die back to produce canes and flowers if grown in good soil. I grow it in zone 4b just south of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
