I'm in Boston, zone 6 I think. This rose gets NO protection from Northern winds, no dieback, and is absolutely huge. Seems to bloom non-stop too.

Hi Alida, I finally have this rose in my collection and it has been very hardy here on Cape Cod. There are a couple of plants at the end of the road that have been there for 90years. See the photos here on HMF; they are several pages back under the photos.

This rose is almost without prickles. Only the backside of the leaves have some and there are short bristles on the twig with the clusters of flowers.

This Year too, a lot of leaves and buds from other roses were badly damaged by the Mottled Umber and the Wintermoth; Ghislaine de Feligonde had some leaves, wich were nibbled upon, but NO damage to the buds!!!
Maybe this rose has some kind of resistance. Next year I'll look again.

Yes, we had a lot of damage here too. I don't think any rose has a "resistance" I think rather that some are more attractive to the worms than others.

Thank You for Your reply and sharing Your insight/experience.
When I said badly damaged I meant really bad, like almost completely defoliated and when the word would exist, de-budded!
But Ghislaine, Starkodder and Seagull had no, or just minor damage.

as I'm known as a beancounter...there is a reference saying that Ghislaine was 4 years old, when the plant was introduced.
I've not read the original document, but there is is written at http://www.rosesanciennesenfrance.org/fr/bulletin.htm#11 that she lived from 1914-1994, so she must have been two years old.

cheers
Bernhard

Hi Bernhard........

Thanks for pointing this out. Your COMMENT will stay with the rose page. We can't change the REFERENCE, but the information from your post is with the rose.

Smiles,
Lyn
