Proof of the Pudding. Heart's Desire HT. Red (Howard & Smith '40). Walters, Calif., thinks it one of our coming red roses; very fragrant. Packard Calif., does not have it but in a friend's garden found 4-foot growth with healthy foliage and huge, fragrant, full crimson blooms which were superb when half open. Breeze Hill (3 pl., 1 yr.) admired the lovely long buds and lustrous semi-double flowers, with pleasing fragrance and strong growth. It is very promising. Our flowers had only 15 petals, while Packard mentioned full blooms. More reports on this rose are needed.

R. Marion Hatton. An American Review of The New Roses.
Promising from this firm [Howard and Smith] is Heart's Desire, a large semi-double flower of velvety scarlet-red with a spicy fragrance. The long shapely buds are beautiful and the open flowers are lovely in spite of their lack of petals. The plants were quite good and will probably bloom better their second year.
