I grew this rose at my old house in north Houston, zone 9a, before we moved in 2012. It always had some blackspot but that never seemed to slow it down much. Always a prolific bloomer, covered with gorgeous small pink flowers. The strange thing is that my husband always comments on the strong, sweet fragrance, but I can hardly smell it at all! Planning to get a new one for our current yard - I see that Jackson & Perkins in USA still carries it.

I've noticed an unusual problem with my Our Lady of Guadalupe the past couple of years (at least, unusual in my experience, as my other roses don't do it). When she first leafs out in spring, the foliage looks very pretty and healthy. Then, around the time the first few flowers begin opening, the foliage starts looking bad -- not with fungal disease, but just odd coloration and texture, as if it's no longer healthy. So, I never get to see her having pretty blooms and pretty foliage at the same time. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this? Or might it be just an idiosyncrasy of the plant under the conditions of my garden?

Also, OLOG's blooms don't seem to last a very long time on the bush before they start getting brownish edges. My bush is currently in one of the sunniest spots in my zone 9 garden -- pretty much sun all day long. Would the blooms last longer before turning brownish if I move her to a spot with shade for part of the day?
