Hunslet Moss (Moss) This is certainly one of the earliest English moss roses. Our plants have been propagated from an old plant known to have been grown by Humphrey Brooke’s ancestors for several generations. The rose is large, full and heavily mossed. Deep pink in colour with a strong perfume. Introduced for Mr Humphrey Brooke by Peter Beales. 1984. (S) 4 x 3’.

E. F. Allen. Roses of Interest.
'Hunslet Moss'.... Mr. Humphrey Brooke tells me that this old rose has been associated with their family for many years. However, with the commendable discipline of a trained historian he advises me that he can vouch for no earlier date than 1916 when, as a child in arms, he was invited to smell the blooms. Nevertheless, he recollects that the name derives from Hunslet, a village which is now absorbed by Greater Leeds, and that its pedigree may possibly be very old......it is not yet in commerce but budwood was given to one specialist nurseryman in 1983.
