Notes:
Dag Lyngar from Norway reports: Hurdalsrosen is an alba rose! Perhaps the biggest alba in the World! (in my garden 14 feet high). It's believed that this rose came from the Giessen area in central Germany. But this rose doesn't any longer exist there. In Norway it is one of our most common roses. Hurdalen is a nice valley in Norway and the rose was brought to Norway about 150 years ago with an young seaman who fell in love with the young daughter of the priest in the valley Hurdalen. The name of this rose is now in the whole world called 'Hurdalsrosen'!
raynyk from Sweden adds: "According to Lars-Åke Gustavsson (the first president of the Swedish Rose Society and author of many rose books) 'Hurdal' shows some similarities with Rosa villosa ssp. villosa and Rosa villosa 'Duplex'. "
