Origin:
Bred by Samuel Darragh (1932-2019) McGredy IV (1965).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Samuel McGredy and Son, Nurserymen (Northern Ireland) in 1970 as 'John Waterer'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  Mild fragrance.  44 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Large, very full (41+ petals), high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Pointed buds.  
Habit:

Height: 3' to 6'7" (90 to 200cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 7b and warmer.  Can be used for cut flower, exhibition or garden.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .
