Arlequin ...The history of this variety is quite obscure, it results probably from the competition between Prévost (of Rouen) and Vibert (of Angers). In effect, one finds in 1829 a variety "Bizarre changeant" , coming from Holland, which apparently an amateur from Rouen called Paillard called "Arlequin". According to Prévost (1829 and 1837) and Boitard (1836), this rose was "small or medium size, very full, bluish purple-violet, mottled". It seems extinct. ....In the literature at L'Haÿ this was confused [with a later Arlequin in Vibert's catalogues ].
